At A Quiet Place, we propose you to live a holiday of sustainable tourism with ease. Far from an image of austerity, you will be amazed by the pleasure of living and tasting an authentic experience, which you will definitely want to prolong at home!
Vacation without a car? It’s possible
We are waiting for you at the Nice station of Marbehan (line Bruxelles-Luxembourg). You can choose to embark with your luggage or ride a bicycle, rented to the Marbehan Initiative Syndicate. There is a garage in the house where your bike is located. Well-signposted itineraries are waiting for you to discover a region with gently hilly terrain. If you prefer walking, Rossignol offers some nice walks. And if you want to venture further, 2 solutions: Buses (stop at 100m) or our shuttle service.
The shortest way is often the best: dare the short circuits!
On the breakfast table, taste the homemade jams, the cheese of Orval (produced 20 kms from us), the ham of Ardenne du Boucher (who can describe you all its way before you arrive on your plate), to the bread of the neighbour Baker ordered nothing For you, apple juice from the press nearby… If coffee and cocoa come from afar, they are produced in a fair and organic stream. We believe that good things should be good for all, producers as consumers. It is the French cooperative company 1336 which produces the teas and herbal tea that you can enjoy at any time. Local companies provided the furniture of the rooms. We use artisans to better match our conception of hospitality. Our 2 favorite accomplices: Woodconception, in Léglise and Millumières, in Marche-en-Famenne. You will live with their creations in the quiet Workspace and in the quiet Room. We manufacture at home the vast majority of the products offered, or we buy them in short circuit, at a local farmers market or at a grocery store that promotes local, organic and fair trade products.
Since we are talking about the furniture, you will be able to guess the adventure of the dining room furniture. The loft also has a lot of fun examples of upcycling. Our favorite shops: the Red Cross and the Entrepeau, in Bastogne! Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed: it is also true at table, where you will be able to test our homemade recipes of crumble, flans and other sweets savory.
The adventure begins at your doorstep: go to meet new worlds!
Sustainable tourism, Slow tourism: 2 terms to describe a form of tourism where you take the time to meet, to appreciate. We believe that exchanges are the best means of knowledge and mutual enrichment. To have lived here, you can easily transpose some beneficial practices for you and the environment. The Gaumais have a well-deserved reputation for being warm. After all, the Gaume is in the extreme south of Belgium! It is not uncommon for our neighbors to offer their services to pick up the trailer from our guests. A quiet Place is an old farmhouse in the heart of a quiet and yet lively village. Here, the locals greet you when you cross them: Do the same, you will be appreciated! And breakfast is also the time for happy encounters! The area is teeming with activities of all kinds: sporting, cultural, festive. We will be happy to provide you with the diary of your stay. You will also be able to participate in our thematic weekends: Feel free to register!
Water, a valuable resource.
If the water flows in our fountains, it is nonetheless precious. At a Quiet Place, the faucets of the water parts are equipped with a device that saves 30% of water. We provide glasses in the bathrooms: rinsing your teeth with a cup saves a lot of water. These cups are glass and therefore reusable. On the other hand, the water flushes have a double flux. Remember to press the right button or more or less long depending on the need. Little more for the tenants of the loft: wash the dishes in the pool available to you!
Go to Zero Waste!
We manage to limit the residual fraction one bag per month: how? By careful sorting, the choice of products little or not packaged. We prefer bulk during our purchases, for which we foresee containers, if possible in paper, glass or metal. We feed the compost with organic waste. You can participate: Each room has sorting bins. Thank you for distinguishing waste to compost from others. You save us precious time, which we can use to pamper you better!
You enjoy a house that smells good the “clean” and it is the least! We use few products: vinegar, soda crystals, baking soda, essential oils, Marseille…et soap especially good aeration! The laundry is made at home with low-aggressive products while respecting rigorous hygiene. This saves the time of the journeys to an industrial wash-house, of household linens subject to less wear and avoids possible allergies to industrial detergents. We can also offer you more colorful clothes! The ironing is entrusted to a local ironing plant, which thus provides work in a logic of social economy. You will discover many more tricks that make life softer… to all!
